Hi, I’m Shayla! I’m a Master’s level therapist at Marble Wellness.

My Education and Professional Background

I have earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Southeast Missouri State University, as well as a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Missouri Baptist University. I’m a counselor-in-training working towards LPC licensure and I’m also completing a certification to become a Registered Play Therapist.

I graduated with my Masters Degree in May of 2023. In my work thus far, I have gained experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autism, grief and loss, and processing various life stages. I absolutely love working with kids and teens.

I am currently a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC), under the supervision of Kristi Machica, LPC, RPT-S, License No: 2010031659-LPC; S2821-RPT.

How I Like to Work in Therapy

I truly enjoy working with children between the ages of 3 years of age and 17 years of age, as well as college students, and young moms. Every session is an adventure with children and they are so eager to learn new things. College students are embarking on a new chapter in their life that is often met with a mix of emotions, uncertainty about what is to come, and pressure to know what they want to do for the rest of their lives. And Moms of all ages are superheroes. It’s important to normalize that motherhood is beautiful and amazing, and also stressful, and anxiety inducing, among other things – and experiencing the not so amazing part of motherhood doesn’t take away from that superhero title.

My approach to therapy involves cultivating a space where my client feels safe and supported, validated, and heard. We will create goals, set boundaries, and practice self-care. I will also challenge my clients, utilize humor, and be their cheerleader as they make progress towards their goals.

Fun Fact

I was born and raised in the St. Louis area. My husband and I have 3 adorable cats. I am a big St. Louis Blues fan, enjoy comedy movies, love to travel, love a good stroll through Target, and feel that you can never go wrong with a good nap. Visiting Greece is at the top of my bucket list.
