Hi, I’m Skyler! I’m a therapist at Marble Wellness.
My Education and Professional Background
After graduating from the College of the Ozarks with a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy, I went on to work in a residential treatment program for teen boys with substance use and behavioral struggles. During this time, I trained with the Missouri Credentialing Board to become a Certified Reciprocal Drug and Alcohol Counselor (CRADC). I went on to receive my Master’s in Social Work from Missouri State University in 2023 and became a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) shortly after.
Over the course of my career, I have worked extensively with families around issues of communication, depression, substance abuse, parenting, life transition, and adoption dynamics. I have also served in community mental health, counseling individuals struggling with psychotic and substance use disorders.
My love for existential philosophy has led me to take an existential approach with clients, seeing therapy as an opportunity to look at the deeper issues that affect all of us as we navigate this painful and beautiful journey called the human experience.
I am currently working under the supervision of Stacy McCann, LCSW (License No: 2013033734).
How I Like to Work in Therapy
Each person has a unique story filled with triumphs and tragedies that lead up to the present. As a therapist, I will honor your story and walk alongside you to discover where you would like the story to go next. The therapy relationship creates a sacred opportunity to reflect on who you are and who you are becoming while providing appropriate tools to create the life you desire.
I believe that each person has the freedom to choose a new path, learn a new skill, and grow toward their values. During our work together, you will uncover a greater understanding of yourself and new ways to relate to the struggles you face with an increased awareness of your inner experiences.
I see therapy as a place where you can finally voice thoughts and feelings that may have been dormant for years, without fear of judgment. Whatever needs to be said or expressed is welcome.
I understand that relationships can be challenging. What once felt like a seamless partnership may now be teetering on the brink of uncertainty. Whether it’s constant arguments over seemingly trivial matters, a growing emotional distance, or a buildup of unspoken resentments, I’m here to help. As a couples counselor, I’ve worked with many partners facing issues ranging from communication breakdowns to struggles with intimacy, parenting conflicts, and family dynamics. I recognize that the decision to seek couples counseling often comes from a shared realization that something valuable has been lost. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where you and your partner can rediscover your connection, learn effective communication strategies, and work towards rebuilding the strong, fulfilling relationship you both desire.
Family and community relationships play a major role in how our stories unfold. As we venture into self-discovery, we come to acknowledge that we exist within a variety of relationships and that our desire to become our truest selves can easily create misunderstanding and conflict with those we are closest to. I approach families with compassion, knowing that our closest relationships can be the hardest to reimagine, especially in light of changing roles, emerging identities, and differing needs.
I give attention to communication and the functioning of each person for the authentic expression of each member’s uniqueness within their commitment to one another.
It is my goal to create a safe and welcoming space for individuals to grow more fully into themselves and for families to strengthen their understanding, compassion, and support for one another.
